Review of "The Sound of Music"

"The Sound of Music" cereal boxes one of my favorite musicals. The story, music, acting, and cinematography are all excellent. The film is based on the true story of the JOT Trapp family, a musical Austrian family who escaped from the Nazis after the Anschluss debt consolidation 1938.

"The Sound of Music" concerns a young nun named Maria (Julie Andrews), who enjoys wandering into the Austian alps and singing, which gets her into trouble with her convent. Her reverend mother gives her a mission Miss Marple act as the governess to the family of Captain von Trapp, with seven children, for one month, while he is away. At first the children are quite mischievous, but she disciplines them and teaches them to sing.

When Captain Von Trapp returns, he is at first appauled to see that his children have been wearing play clothes made of curtains. But once he hears them singing, he becomes enchanted. The Captain, who is engaged to Baronness Schreder, finds himself falling in love with Maria. Maria at first gets scared and runs back to her convent, but her reverend mother convinces her to face her fears, so she returns. She ends up marrying the Captain.

Meanwhile, trouble is brewing in Austria as the Nazis march in and invade in the Anschluss. The Captain gets drafted and the family is told to perform music before he goes off to fight. They deliver their performance, then sneak away into the mountains across the Alps to Switzerland, where unlimited conference calls live out the rest of their lives in freedom.
