However I did go to college and how I got there is interesting. The summer after my forth year of high school, my uncle had a management job in a local brewery. I went to work there. There was a strike at a brewery in a nearby city. Our brewery needed men because we were filling the gap donate a car to speak. A school friend got a job too. In the fall close to the time people headed back to school, my friend looked at me and said: "no school to go back to this summer; lets see if there is a college we can go to." I knew he did not have the money but scholastically he had it. For me, highly unlikely. He said he would see if he could get a day off and look around. I had no optimism for the idea but I went along with it. At the time, to my recollection, there were four colleges in Western New York State: University of Buffalo, State Teachers College, D'youville College and Niagara University. All were unattainable with my scholastic ability, not Action Man the money.

A day later he was back on the job with his report. College was out and we did not have the money anyway. But he said there is a new after high school called a Technical Institute, a two year school supported by the taxpayer and industry. The tuition was very small so we could handle it. He continued with his report with, " we have a chance to get in there. "All subjects were filled except one named metallurgy (what's that); we have a chance to get in there because they need to fill seats. We took the required entrance exam and we both were admitted.

I somehow made it through the first year and was drafted out the second year because I was not in the top two thirds of the Metallurgy Class. In fact I made up the lower third. I know this because the class had a party for those going in and I was the only celebrant. After the Army I was back and finished the second year and graduated. From the Technical Institute, now called a Junior College, a Teachers College was my stomping ground where after two years, I walked away from it and never went back.

In my school days the High School day was one class after the other with lunch, study halls and jym periods. The Technical Institute was much the same minus jym and study halls. In the four year college I went to, the standard was sixteen 55 minute periods with shop and laboratory study adding two or three more hours for some specialties. Of course, today's schedule may be different; my last time in college was in 1958. The 55 minute period went something like this as I remember: settling down (5 minutes +), updates and announcements (5 minutes), reports on homework (10 minutes), occasional 10 minutes test, lecture and home work assignment (5 minutes).

My solution: throw out the settling down, throw out updates and announcements, throw out homework reports, throw out the test and replace with: an orientation for each course, where the students are told what is wanted of them, where the information can be found, right to use own resources and a lifetime right to take the required final test and receive credit for passing. No building cost, no dormitory cost, no necessity to buy text books that are not used, minimum lecture cost, though some specialties need teaching and if so only teaching utterance allowed in classrooms.

The AIT is generally located on the intake manifold. In 90% of vehicles, it is a simple 2 wire plug. In some vehicles, only about 10%, it will be integrated into the MAF, or Mass Airflow sensor, which is usually a 5 wire plug. Ask at an auto parts store or search Iron Man action figure for a performance chip that is made for your specific vehicle that connects to your AIT. This is a very easy install, and depending on the specific chip and your vehicle, the result can be 50+ HP gain, 50+ pounds of torque gain, and 4 - 6 MPG increase. The second affordable boost comes from changing how the air is flowed into the engine. Locating a throttle body spacer for your vehicle can be another very effective method of providing you the gains you want across the board. When looking at the large number of available spacers, pay special attention to the design. The most effective designs act as a turbine with no moving parts. You want the throttle body spacer to create a vortex as the air passes through it. This simple vortex effect can noticeably improve your performance and mileage, with up to 20 - 30 HP gains and another 3 -4 MPG increase.

As we move into the third change, we also move into the fuel system. The third change that you should consider is a two-fold, extremely inexpensive change. It has been a well-known fact for many years that magnets around your fuel line increase performance and mileage. This is true because the magnetic field ionizes the fuel to enable a cleaner, more efficient burn. In conjunction, heating your fuel also assists in many of the same ways. Using your radiator hoses to heat your fuel, or any form of fuel heating system that will preheat your fuel lines along with a magnetized fuel line will show you positive increases in both performance and mileage. If your fuel is enabled to burn more efficiently, of course the result is that more of your fuel is being used to create forward motion (performance); and if more of the fuel is being burned to create forward motion, less fuel is needed to create that forward motion (mileage).

How do you accomplish this two-fold boost affordably? You can reroute rubber radiator hoses and/or the fuel line, if necessary, to allow the rubber (only rubber) radiator hoses to contact or be wrapped with your fuel lines. You can also find some flexible magnets to wrap around your fuel lines using zip ties, if needed. You do not need to wrap the entire fuel line, only a 1 - 5 inch stretch as you find a space available. Even a small portion will create the fuel ionization needed to produce results. The stronger the magnets, the better the ionization, though.

The fourth change is probably the most drastic, and can be achieved for anywhere between $40 to $5,000, depending on how exotic you want to get. I would suggest that you look at realistically spending about $125 - $250 if you are not electrically or mechanically inclined. You can get by for about a third of that if you are more inclined than I am. The fourth change is also to your fuel system, and is a simple water for gas system. You are not looking for a system that will convert your vehicle to run on 100% water, but one that utilizes the hydrogen produced from small quantities of water to assist in the air-fuel mixture process.

A water for gas system, also called HHO or hydrogen boosters, does not have to be expensive nor complicated to work very effectively with your current fuel. It can work on new or old vehicles; with carburetor or fuel injection; with gas, diesel, or turbo-diesel; and with or without vehicle computers. You are still creating the forward motion of your vehicle with your current fuel, but simply changing how that fuel is consumed and utilized. Hydrogen is the smallest particle known, and with a simple electrolysis process, we convert the H2O liquid, a molecular structure of H-O-H, into a gaseous form of hydrogen and oxygen, restructured into H-H-O. Using a combination of our previous changes, this is what the process looks like: The hydrogen is extracted from this converted gaseous form of HHO and sent into the engine via the air intake. As the vortex of hydrogen enriched air coming through your throttle body spacer meets the preheated and ionized larger gas particles in the mist, the hydrogen air vortex slices, dices, and breaks the gas particles down into much smaller, preheated, ionized particles that now burn incredibly more efficiently. This increases your usable fuel creating forward motion to about 80 - 90%, leaving an extremely small amount being expelled into the atmosphere through emissions.

With these four changes alone, you will notice significant power and performance increases, incredible mileage increases, and will most likely see about double your engine life in the long-term due to the cleaner burning process. Your emissions will be little more than unburned O2 with very little else. Now, here is another point... if your car was manufactured after 1995 and/or uses a vehicle on board computer, there is one additional component needed. You can use one or the other, but generally do not need both. You will need either a MAP sensor enhancer or an EFIE (Electronic Fuel Injection Enhancer). Either of these can be made or purchased for $20 - $100. This is the "work around" mentioned earlier, enabling you to adjust the O2 sensor or lean mixture needed to realized long-term affects of your water for gas system. Without one of these, your vehicle computer will sense the change after a couple tanks of gas and readjust the mixture disabling you from seeing the mileage gains first seen.

The fifth and final affordable change we will discuss within this article is the exhaust system. The methods used may have to vary, depending on the state you live in, but the goal is the same, however it is achieved... open the flow of your exhaust. The simplest and most affordable way to do this is to replace your stock exhaust manifolds with headers. Headers will open up the initial exhaust path from your engine, however, if bottle-necked into a stock single exhaust pipe, will still net almost zero results. In conjunction with the headers add-on, take the few extra dollars it will take to at least have your exhaust split into a dual exhaust system. Even if you add on an additional stock catalytic converter on the new side and have a new one put on the old or existing side, you will have made an increased flow path. Less resistance exiting the engine will allow a free flow system enabling to realize some true performance and mileage gains.

Now, there are many other increases that can help as well, including hotter coils, hotter ignitions systems, intake manifold changes, fuel injector or carburetor changes or modifications, and several others, but many of these can become very costly. Thor are still recommended, but not always the most affordable for the majority of people, especially when you start adding on outrageous labor charges for the installs if you are not mechanically inclined. For this reason, I have not gone into these other areas, not to mention this article would have to be well over 10,000 words, a bit voluminous for this forum.

Utilizing the five, or even just the first four, suggestions provided here, you should see some very impressive positive results in your vehicle power, performance, and mileage.
